Nine Gs Monocoque Press Forming (MPF)
Our proprietary version of MPF produces a highly optimized rim structure containing less than 2% void content and a 65% fiber volume fraction. The ultra-low void content creates a very strong structure, since voids, or spaces in the rim are weak points and areas prone to failure. The optimal balance of carbon to resin content maximizes the combined strength and stiffness of the two materials. This means that Nine Gs carbon rims meet the stringent specifications used to qualify primary aerospace structural carbon reinforced composite parts – the highest level of requirements for carbon fabrication. Aerospace parts must provide the highest possible performance. They must be light to flight, but strong and stiff to minimize the potential for catastrophic failure – which can result in loss of life. Besides strength, stiffness and durability, the extra benefit of an aerospace level of performance in our Nine Gs wheels is maximum energy transfer from pedaling to movement – transformation of effort into acceleration and speed. Our MPF process produces a rim that has no joints, seams or overlapping sections at the rim vertex - which increases substantially the local strength at the nipples/spokes interface. The vertex is also internally reinforced to prevent the possibility of nipples pulling through the rim, and allowing for very high spoke tension – the key to a very durable wheel. In addition, Nine Gs MPF creates a rim that is aesthetically exceptional with an even and continuous pattern of the carbon fabric and a very smooth finish surface without any additional treatment, such as clear coats or lacquer.
